SEEK Applied Jobs: Where to Find Them and What They Show

SEEK applied jobs stay in your profile for three months. Why some listed jobs were never sent, what SEEK's updates mean, and how to keep a lasting record.

Quick Answer

Your SEEK applied jobs are on the Applied Jobs page: sign in, click your profile photo at the top right, and select Applied Jobs. It shows the last three months of applications and, where SEEK has the information, whether the employer viewed yours.

  • A job that sends you to the employer's website goes on the list when you click Apply, whether you finished the application or not.
  • Viewed status unavailable means the employer uses outside software to manage applications, so SEEK can't tell you if your resume was viewed.
  • An Application update email means the employer marked your application as unlikely to progress.

For a record that doesn't expire after three months, mark each application in the HideJobs browser extension and save it to the HideJobs job tracker.

Where SEEK keeps the jobs you applied to

SEEK lists your applied jobs on its Applied Jobs page, under your profile photo or avatar at the top right once you sign in. According to SEEK's help centre, the page shows the jobs you applied for and, "where possible, whether an employer has viewed your application."

The same help page says you will only see the jobs you applied for "within the last three months." Another SEEK help page, about withdrawing applications, says applications are "only stored in your Applied jobs summary for 90 days." Either way, an application from four months ago is gone from SEEK's list, even if the employer calls you about it tomorrow. To keep applications past that window, mark each one in HideJobs once you finish applying (see keep a record that lasts).

Applied Jobs is also only a record. SEEK sends each application straight to the employer and takes no further part in hiring, so the employer is the one to ask where yours stands.

Why your SEEK applied jobs list is incomplete or wrong

Some SEEK job ads have you apply on the employer's own website. SEEK can't see what you do there, and it fills that gap with a guess. Its help page on employer-site applications says that when you click Apply on a job ad that links out, "we record this under Applied Jobs, even if you have not completed the full application." SEEK explains: "once you leave the SEEK website there is no way for us to know if you've completed the application, so we assume you have."

So your list can include jobs you only looked at on the employer's site. SEEK is clear that your details "will NOT have been submitted to the employer unless you have completely followed their instructions and completed your application." If you opened a long application form and closed it halfway, that job still sits on your list as if you had applied.

Employer-site applications are thin in other ways too. SEEK says you won't see the resume or cover letter you sent for them, "only the job ad itself", and that applications which took you to an employer's website "will not show updates." Only applications you completed on the SEEK website or app can show progress in Applied Jobs.

To keep a list of only the applications you actually sent, click Mark as Applied in HideJobs on each SEEK job once you finish applying, whether you applied on SEEK or on the employer's site (see how).

What SEEK application updates mean, and what to do next

SEEK shows some of your application status on the Applied Jobs page and some by email, and neither tells you everything. SEEK's page on updates about a job you applied for lists the common emails, and the subject lines are easy to misread. The table below adds one status message SEEK may show on a job you applied for:

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Your application was successfully submittedSEEK sent your application to the employer.Nothing yet. Note the date you applied.
[Employer] has viewed your application for [job title]The employer has viewed your application.Wait for a reply. A view is not a decision.
Viewed status unavailable (on a job you applied for)The employer manages applications in outside software, so SEEK has no information on whether, or when, your resume was viewed.Contact the employer if you want to know where it stands.
Application update for [job title]The employer selected an option that says your application is unlikely to progress. SEEK may add feedback on how your answers matched the employer's question preferences.Read the feedback if there is any, and use it on your next screening questions.
The [job title] with [employer] has closedThe job ad expired and takes no new applications. The job may be filled, or the employer may still be working through the applications it has.Don't read it as a rejection. Keep waiting, or follow up with the employer.
New activity in jobs you applied forThe employer has been managing applications for a job you applied to. SEEK says this "is not an update on your specific application status."Nothing. It isn't about your application.

SEEK adds that these emails "may no longer be relevant" if the employer has already offered you an interview or the job, and that you "may or may not hear back from the employer" at all.

If an employer has gone quiet, a short follow-up email is how to ask. See how to write a follow-up email after a job application for when to send one and what to say.

Keep a record of every SEEK application that lasts

The HideJobs browser extension gives you the record SEEK's list doesn't. It works on SEEK's job search pages in Australia and New Zealand in a desktop browser and adds a Mark as Applied button to every job card and next to Save in the open job.

Once you finish an application, on SEEK or on the employer's website, click Mark as Applied on that job on SEEK. The button changes to Applied and HideJobs asks "Add to Job Tracker?". Choose Add to tracker, and the job is saved to the HideJobs job tracker with the status Applied. If you are logged out, choose Log in & save it, and the job is saved once you log in.

HideJobs adds Mark as Applied and Mark as Dismissed to each SEEK job card.

Because you mark a job only after you finish applying, the tracker holds the applications you actually sent, including the employer-site ones SEEK can't confirm. As replies come in, move each one to Interviewing, Not Selected, Ghosted or No Response, add a follow-up date, and keep notes on who you spoke to.

Your marks also add up in Weekly Stats, in the HideJobs panel. It charts the jobs you applied to and dismissed on SEEK, day by day, one week at a time, and you can step back through earlier weeks, which are kept for more than a year. If you applied on more than one job site that week, a third chart adds up your applications from every site. It works without an account, and the numbers stay on your computer.

Weekly Stats, shown here for LinkedIn. On SEEK, the charts read Dismissed on SEEK and Applied on SEEK.

Once your applications are in the tracker, HideJobs also labels SEEK job cards from companies you already applied to. A card can say "Applied to 3 jobs at this company", or "Likely applied to this job on LinkedIn" when a tracked application at the same company has a very similar title, on SEEK or another job site. That matters on SEEK because job ads stay live for up to 30 days, and SEEK says that if the position has not been filled by then, "employers can choose to re-list the role." The line warns you before you apply to the same job twice.

Stop applied jobs coming back in your SEEK searches

Jobs you have already dealt with, ones you applied to, ruled out or already opened, only clutter a new search. The HideJobs filters take them off the results page. Open the HideJobs panel on a SEEK search and switch them on:

  • Applied hides every job you marked with Mark as Applied. A small Applied badge on the page shows how many it hid; click it to show them again.
  • Dismissed hides jobs you marked with Mark as Dismissed, for the ones you read and ruled out.
  • Viewed hides jobs SEEK marks as Viewed in the card's date line, so jobs you already opened drop out of the results. The job you have open stays until you open another one.

The panel has more SEEK filters for jobs you would rather skip before applying. To hide job ads that don't name the employer, see Private Advertiser on SEEK, and to check how busy a job is before you apply, see SEEK application volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about SEEK applications.

Can I withdraw a job application on SEEK?

Not through SEEK. SEEK sends your application straight to the advertiser, so it says "you will need to contact the advertiser directly to withdraw your application."

Does removing a job from Applied Jobs cancel my application?

No. SEEK says the Applied Jobs summary is "only a record of the information that was submitted", and removing a job from it "will not remove the application from the advertiser's records."

How do I finish an application I started on the employer's website?

Go back to the job ad on SEEK and click Apply again. SEEK says this takes you back to the employer's website, where you can continue. Until you complete it there, your details have not been sent to the employer.

Why is a job in my SEEK Applied Jobs when the employer's link didn't work?

SEEK records the job as soon as you click Apply on a job ad that links out, so it is listed even though nothing was sent. SEEK asks you to send it a link to the job ad through Contact us, so it can ask the hiring manager to fix the link, and says it will let you know when you can re-apply.

Why am I not getting SEEK emails about my applications?

Check your notification settings: sign in, click your profile photo or avatar at the top right, select Settings, then Notifications. SEEK says you can unsubscribe from "updates about your job applications" there, so they may be switched off.

How do I contact an employer about my SEEK application if the job ad has no contact details?

SEEK suggests searching for the advertiser's contact details with a search engine, since many advertisers have their own websites, or sending an enquiry in the cover letter free-text space on the application form, where the form has one.
