Once you start a blog it’s so ridiculously easy to create new ones. All you need is a domain, hosting, and an installation of WordPress. However, the problem with doing this is that you can quickly spread yourself thin and before you know it you might be running too many sites and not being able to focus on the ones that matter.
This is why you need to find a quality niche market and topic before you jump-start yourself with a new blog. In this post, I’m going to cover five unique areas where you can start a blog of your own with little competition and a few ways to monetize the site without the need to find advertisers or rely on Google Adsense.
Collectibles
Start Everyone likes to collect stuff. I like to collect old comic books. No matter what people like to order there are small niche markets for all of them. In the world of comics and Marvel, there are a ton of websites out there with affiliate programs. You can start promoting anything from comic t-shirts, action figures, high-end statues, old comics, custom art, and much more.
To make the most out of your site it would be best for you to choose one topic within the collectibles market and then expand on it as much as possible. Remember, provide value to the collectors and people who are coming to your site and you will do that much better!
T-shirts
Speaking of Marvel shirts, there is a whole world out there for clothing and apparel. Whether you wanted to promote name-brand clothing or just funny t-shirts, everything is already out there for you to get started. I highly recommend joining Shareasale.com and CJ.com as they are two of the biggest players for connecting with t-shirt and clothing sites.
Provide coupons, reviews, and articles on different brands and find what people are searching for. Once they land on your site, send them over to the actual consumer site where they can make a purchase.
Credit Score
Everyone has a credit score and they change all the time. Good credit, bad credit… everyone needs to keep track of their score and their identity. This means there is a ton of opportunity for you to make money in the financial and security niche. Many affiliate networks are paying $20+ for valid credit check applications.
Of course, you don’t want to compete against the biggest agencies and financial companies in the world, so go after specific niche topics such as how to improve a low credit score fast or build a credit site for students in college. There is a lot you can play with here in a very profitable market.
Pet Food
There are seven billion people in the world and a good amount of them have pets. When they need to buy something for their pet or look up information there is a good chance they are going to head to the internet to find an answer. If you could create a site that was there to answer people’s problems or provide them with reviews on the best and worst dog food brands and toys then you could make some good money.
Petco, PetSmart, and a lot of other big-name brands have affiliate programs that you can join and promote on your site. Best of all, these are brands people are already buying from so it’s not hard at all to convert them into buyers.
Job Market
Right now the economy is in the dumps and more people are out of work than ever. This also means more people are looking for new jobs and ways to get hired. Everything from getting a better education, going back to school, creating a better resume, connecting with others on LinkedIn, and much more. You name it and people are doing it. Creating a job market site for any niche job or location in the US is a great way to make money. Big-name job sites are always looking for new signs ups and ad networks have lots of offers for people to apply for online and campus colleges.
It’s a big world and a huge job market, don’t go after the general search… become the authority in a small niche.
Believe it or not, I came up with these ideas right off the top of my head while I was starting to write the post. I don’t recommend starting a new website right when a new idea pops into your head. You MUST first look into that niche and see if there is a way to monetize your content and traffic, check the competition in the search results, and see how easy or hard it will be for you to rank within the results.
This isn’t brain surgery, you just need to put in the time and effort to create something of value and keep working with it over time. Everyone wants to make money overnight but creating an online business is just like any other business, it takes investment, time, and effort!
Time to start now…
